Debden Sports 1
Newtown Wesley 0
Debden Sports who are still in the hunt for 5 trophies made the first final appearance of the season in the Liberty of Havering Trophy. This was the only top Romford and District League Trophy not won by Debden last season.
On a cold and blustery night and on a difficult pitch the match was never going to be one for the purest. Debden started the better of the two sides but the game was played mainly in the midfield with both sets of strikers failing to trouble either defence. Half an hour into the game Debden got a free kick about 25 yards from goal and after what seemed an age Adam Hines sent the ball around the wall into the bottom corner. This stired the Newtown Wesley side but with David Smith leading the defence chances where still kept to minimum.
Newtown came out in the second half looking to get back into the game and despite some good play they never really made any telling chances. Their best chance was well saved by the Debden goalkeeper Gareth Lealand. With time running out Debden conceded a late free kick and Newtown sent everyone into the box. With the ball bobbling around no one was able to get a clear shot off on goal and Lealand was finally able to come out and collect a high ball. This proved to be the last kick of the match and referee duly blew his whistle ending the match.
